Expressive Arts Therapy

Expression beyond words.

Expressive arts therapy integrates visual art, music, movement, and narrative to access emotions that resist verbal expression — uniquely effective for children and teens who struggle to "just talk about it."

What it addresses

  • Emotional dysregulation
  • Trauma & PTSD
  • Anxiety & depression
  • Social withdrawal & isolation
  • Communication challenges
  • Grief & loss

What a session looks like

Sessions unfold organically — your therapist offers a creative prompt (drawing, clay, music, narrative writing) calibrated to your child's current emotional state. The art is never evaluated for skill; it becomes a window into experience, not a product to be judged. Verbal reflection follows naturally at whatever pace fits your child. Families are often invited into brief debrief conversations after youth sessions.
